Dr. Nagumo began his career as a specialist in musculoskeletal oncology at leading institutions in Japan.
He later moved to the United States, where he engaged in research on regenerative medicine.
During his time in the U.S., a personal sports injury inspired him to view medicine from the athlete's perspective. This experience made him acutely aware of the importance of practical sports medicine—specifically, providing athletes with clear answers to questions such as “What can I do right now?” and “What treatment options and timelines are available?”
In June 2023, he established NAG Orthopedic Clinic in Shirokanedai, Minato-ku, Tokyo, as a specialized center for orthopedic care.

Message from the Director
First, we begin treatment by listening to the patient’s thoughts
Hello, everyone. My name is Yoshiaki Nagumo, Director of NAG Orthopedic Clinic. Our clinic provides a wide range of treatments, from general insurance-covered medical care to advanced therapies such as regenerative medicine.
Sudden injuries or illnesses often cause not only physical pain but also mental distress.
As physicians, we can understand the condition of the body through a regular examination, but we cannot fully grasp the state of a patient’s mind. Moreover, mental suffering varies greatly from person to person.
At our clinic, we make sure to set aside time for thorough communication so that we can understand such inner struggles and begin treatment while staying close to the patient’s feelings.

Aiming to provide care that can be close to the heart’s concerns
My first experience relying on medical institutions for a serious injury was during the time I lived in the United States. Long-term medical treatment in a foreign country and unfamiliar environment brought great stress.
During the recovery period, when I could not do what I wanted, I naturally had more time to face myself. What if I am left with aftereffects? Am I burdening my family? How long will it take to recover completely? I remember feeling anxious and impatient for quite some time.
However, my attending doctor at the time carefully listened to my worries, took my wishes into account, and developed a treatment plan accordingly. This helped me regain a positive outlook.
Now, I am even grateful for this experience, which showed me the path I should take.

The circumstances and concerns of patients visiting our clinic truly vary:
・Students who absolutely want to make it to their final competition match in a club activity
・People worried about recurrence of injuries that could hinder continued competition
・Athletes who want to undergo treatment alongside training
・Those concerned about the physical and mental burden on their family
・Patients struggling with the financial burden of long-term treatment
Based on my personal experience, our clinic aims to be a medical institution that can empathize with such patient feelings. To propose a treatment plan they can be satisfied with and to support them in facing their injury, we start by listening to their thoughts.
We operate on a fully appointment-based system because we believe that creating an environment where we can listen carefully is of utmost importance.
A Comprehensive Orthopedic Clinic for Healing, Prevention, and Maintenance
We provide three categories of medical care and treatment as a comprehensive orthopedic clinic:
1.Healing injuries and illnesses
Accurate diagnosis is essential for pain relief.
Based on swift and precise diagnosis, we support patients in returning to their normal lives as quickly as possible. As a Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare-approved facility, we can also promptly provide regenerative treatments such as PRP therapy.
2.Preventing injuries and illnesses
We provide appropriate advice from the perspectives of physical therapy, nutrition, and preventive medicine.
We offer advanced sports medicine—developed through professional athlete care—to the general public as well. By promoting proper exercise, correct posture, and lifestyle improvements, we help minimize future health risks.
3.Maintaining a healthy condition
Our advanced treatments, such as fascia release injections and exosome therapy, aim to extend healthy life expectancy and provide anti-aging benefits. These can be used for regular check-ups and maintenance with ease.
An injury or illness may be the initial reason for visiting, but I hope it will also become an opportunity for patients to learn more about their bodies. From preventing recurrence to supporting a healthy daily life, my goal as a physician is to stand by my patients and provide care that reassures them.

Regenerative Medicine Advisor: Hajime Inoue
Since 1987, when the academic field of regenerative medicine had yet to be established, I have been working on the practical application of tissue regeneration technology. I successfully achieved Japan’s first mass production of autologous cultured epidermal cell sheets and was involved in saving the lives of patients with severe burns through regenerative medical technology using this cultured epidermis.
In recent years, I have developed regenerative medicine treatments using platelet-rich plasma (PRP) for intractable skin ulcers, which frequently occur in diabetic patients and others. In 2020, I succeeded in having PRP treatment included in Japan’s national health insurance system as the country’s first regenerative medical procedure to be covered.
PRP therapy is highly effective for the regeneration of joints and surrounding tissues in the field of orthopedics. It is not only effective for treating the joints, tendons, and ligaments of athletes but also for managing joint disorders that frequently occur in middle-aged and older adults.
By leveraging drug development and therapeutic techniques—areas in which pharmacists excel—I am now able to offer regenerative medical treatments not only using PRP and epidermal cells but also various somatic cells and somatic stem cells. This enables us to provide cells and regenerative medical care tailored to the needs and conditions of each patient, delivering truly personalized treatment at NAG Orthopedic Clinic.
